UpLift Austin helps schools integrate sustainability education into the classroom by offering day-time, accredited courses and consulting services. By listening to each school's unique needs, schedule and interests, UpLift Austin designs curriculum and offers online and community resources that support teachers in their efforts to weave environmental stewardship into their lesson plans and organize green campus improvement projects. Below is an abbreviated list of services offered:
GREEN FOUNDATIONS COURSE
- Teaches the foundation of environmental education and sustainability
- Introduces students to various green collar jobs
- Assists in the design & implementation of green service projects on campus
ADVANCED DESIGN INNOVATIONS COURSE
- Offers deeper study of sustainability concepts
- Introduces students to green product design through labs and recycled material inventions
- Focuses on problem-solving skills and design solutions emphasizing “triple bottom line”
- Culminates in end-of-semester Design Innovation Fair and Competition
ECO-AUDIT COURSE
- Students measure baseline school data: energy, water, waste, transportation, nutrition, etc.
- Students create strategic plan for greening school to present to principle, school and funders
- Culminate in end-of-semester product: a green map of school, present status and future goals
CONSULTING SERVICES
- Assist schools with skills and resources to carry out specific sustainability initiatives
- Offer teacher training & professional development workshops to integrate sustainability concepts and climate education into existing subjects and units of study.
